On January 31st, we celebrated a very special moment at our casita: the official launch of COLIBRÍ CIC, the restaurant’s charity initiative.
It was a day filled with food, music, dancing, and joy, shared with people who have supported us throughout our journey, as well as those who value and believe in our work. A special thanks to Juan & Juan for believing in our mission and donating their award‑winning Ecuadorian wines. Their generosity added a truly special touch! The event marked the beginning of a project born from a desire to give back and create a positive impact beyond the restaurant.
Why COLIBRĂŤ?
The hummingbird holds a powerful meaning in many Latin American cultures. It represents resilience, joy, energy, and the ability to make a difference despite being small. Constantly in motion, the hummingbird connects flowers and landscapes, bringing life wherever it goes.
For us, COLIBRĂŤ symbolizes that every act of kindness counts. Even from a restaurant in London, we can contribute to supporting children in vulnerable situations in Ecuador, creating bridges of care and opportunity.
This spirit of collaboration has always been at the heart of our journey. In our culture, we call it minga: working together, helping one another, and supporting our community. Long before COLIBRĂŤ was officially launched, we were already carrying out social initiatives through informal and ad hoc actions.
In 2016, after the earthquake in Ecuador, we organized fundraising efforts to support families on the coast. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked closely with volunteers from El Inca workforce and friends of El Inca joining forces with an Ecuadorian council representative in Southwark, London, to donate food boxes and essential products to Latin American families facing economic and legal hardship at that time. Our team remained committed, continuing to support those in need during one of the most difficult times.
Every year, we also donate funds to the community of Gonzanamá, Loja, in Ecuador, helping ensure that children in the most remote rural areas receive a bag of special Christmas sweets, an Ecuadorian tradition. We consistently work to raise funds so that no child is left without a smile during this magical time for all children.
We focus especially on reaching people who are often overlooked, those who may not qualify for government assistance but still need support. One of our aims is to collaborate with existing organizations that share the same values and commitment to social responsibility.
This past Saturday marked an important milestone with the official presentation of COLIBRĂŤ, giving structure and visibility to a purpose that has always been part of who we are: to give back, to connect, and to create lasting impact.
Looking ahead
COLIBRÍ CIC is a natural extension of El Inca Plebeyo’s values: community, responsibility, care, and connection to our roots. It is our way of giving back to the culture and country that inspire us every day.
This is only the beginning. We hope COLIBRĂŤ CIC will continue to grow, fly far, and support those who need it most.
